Aliza Shvarts is a Yale university student majoring in fine arts. Her senior project has stirred much controversy today, as it was revealed to include a documentation of a series of self-induced abortions she went through after artificially impregnating herself.
Shvarts' exhibition, sure to set the likes of Anne Coulter in a firy rage, documents nine full month of this impregnating and self pregnancy termination practice. The documentation includes video, photos and actual blood samples. Shvarts used abortion drugs to induce the miscarriages.
"The blood will be mixed with Vaseline to prevent it from drying. The blood will be placed between sheets of plastic that will be wrapped around a cube hung from the ceiling. Her video recordings of the miscarriages will be projected on each side of the cube."
“I hope it inspires some sort of disclosure. Sure, some people will be upset with the message and will not agree with it, but it’s not the intention of the piece to scandalize anyone,” said Shvarts in an interview for the Yale newspaper.

Art is what it is to the artist. Not everyone can appreciate every style. That being said, it's not to my liking. Hmmm, I wonder how her professor will mark/grade her project. Should she pass? Does it meet the criteria of the assessment? Does it deem her more or less of an artist? I wonder.

"Ms. Shvarts is engaged in performance art," a Yale spokeswoman, Helaine Klasky, said. "She stated to three senior Yale University officials today, including two deans, that she did not impregnate herself and that she did not induce any miscarriages. The entire project is an art piece, a creative fiction designed to draw attention to the ambiguity surrounding form and function of a woman's body."The New York Sun reports that Aliza Shvarts' artificial insemination and miscarriage art project is just "creative fiction." Yale University released a statement this afternoon:
Ms. Klasky went on to suggest that Yale would not have permitted a project of the sort described in the student newspaper. "Had these acts been real, they would have violated basic ethical standards and raised serious mental and physical health concerns."
I heard more recently that she now says that she never denied doing the impregnation/abortion thing and that Yale is just saying that to quell the controversy. Personally, I don't think she did it AND she is fueling pro-life groups with her hypothetical irresponsible antics.
Well said Billybud. I find it so out of touch for people to cry injustice over this but kills thousands of people in a war! Her choice, her body. I will vote to continue women to allow them to govern their own bodies til my last breath.

Did she commit a crime? NO Did she commit a sin? YES According to the Christian Bible she may have. And Sending 18 year old boys into war makes us look better? And please do not mention terrorists or 9-11. I do not agree with her grotesque statement, however, it was her "choice" to do so.

I am one of the staunchest pro-choice people you are ever likely to meet, but I think she ought to be charged with some kind of crime. I just can't think what. That's the most disgusting idea I've heard in quite some time, and it hurts women in general. Hell, it makes humans look bad to have her as one of them. Stupid little ****!

Hitler was a failed artist. Maybe the Holocaust was his idea of an artistic performance piece. It did lead people to discuss, inguire, contemplate, and look at many moral concepts.
Please do not compare the slaughter of Six Million Innocent people by an Ultra Conservative Madman to the tasteless decision of a college student in order to make a statement.
