Criminals are essentially property of the goverment. Just like soldiers, you lose your civil rights once that has happened.

Haaa!  People would feel the injustice and take matters into their own hands.  I don't support the death penalty, but I would like to see all child molesters banished to some island (with no chance of escape).  Just drop them off and let them figure out who to grow their own food and create their own society.  Out of sight - out of mind.  If they kill each other or molest each other - I don't even want to know about it. have the coast guard patrol with orders to shoot on sight, if they try to escape . . . Just my opinion

remove the government and turn it over to private sources and see how the problem begins to fade....

Barring some fascinating new technology, or radically different legislature, our criminal justice system will need to become a lot less compassionate to deal with economic pressures and growing crime.

The contradiction is that we call ourselves a civilized society and a First World country. Any state in which after 200+ years of a democracy such as ours there exists poverty, hunger, disease and social unrest is an abomination!

Not unless they're a white collar criminal who has managed to make millions cheating the American public, in which case they get a bail-out.
