Mar 29th, 2008 | Taste survey

Have you ever eaten any of these odd fruits? If not pick the one you'd most like to try. Leave a comment if you did try one and tell us how you liked it!

lychees - Lychees are sweet delicately flavored fruits that have a crisp, sweet opalescent white, juicy flesh that has the texture of a firm jelly. The taste is deliciously sweet and unique.

horned mellon - More dazzling for their appearance than their taste, their edible inner pulp is yellow-green and tastes like a cucumber.

mangosteen - Mangosteen is very sweet. It has been described as tasting like strawberry, peach, and vanilla ice cream.

black sapote - a round fruit with the flavor of chocolate and a pudding consistency.Cut off top and scoop out inside and serve.

durian - Usually hard to find fresh and are even banned in many places because the fruit emits a foul stench similar to garbage when cut open.  The acquired taste can vary from a sweet, nutty flavor to almost oniony.

Oh Bearden....this one is right up my alley.  I have eaten and we are attempting to grow all but that horny little melon.  The durian stinks to high hell.  In indonesia if I recall correctly they won't let you take it on the public buses it smells so bad.  But the friut is pretty nice.  The mangosteen is lovely!  It has a whitish juicy flesh and is quite sweet. I could eat heaps! The lychees are like cute little eggs and smiliar to mangosteen in the edible flesh.  they make juices from the lychees and it is very yummy.  Thought be warned, it gives some people copious amounts of gas....The black sapote, is great as well!  It's a bit like chocolate.  I have had it mixed in with Ice Cream and it is lovely!   A bit odd on it's own though.  I'm waiting for the first one from our tree. Thanks for touching home with me on this poll. :-)

I've never eaten any of these, but from what the mangosteen's taste is described as...I'm gonna hunt some down!
