An alley so narrow that only one person can fit through it (when the light is green)

This alley, located in Prague, the Czech Republic, is so narrow that only one person can fit through. A traffic light serves the pedestrians, to prevent unwanted encounters. You'll get a fine for crossing when the light is red.

"This is exactly how they lost the war": exactly what war are you talking about? Or are you just uneducated?

I think he was refering to World War I, when Czech Republic, at the time, was part of Austria-Hungary, an axis country, which lost the war to the allies

We could install these walkways in front of every McDonald's. A good first step in the fight against obesity in America.

It's a trap!  If they have an uprising/war they funnel their enemies through the tunnel and mow them down, ala the Battle of Thermopylae.
