Will these horrible photos attain the target and lower the number of smokers in Thailand?

Thailand is probably one of the leading countries that is campaigning against cigarette smoking: cigarette advertising on television is banned, so are visuals of people smoking. American sitcoms or movies, for example, get blurred out when someone is shown smoking. Even cartoons like The Simpsons get censored when Bart's aunts smoke. But the war on smoking is still behind: The National Statistics Bureau shows over 21.6 million Thais smoke cigarettes every day. The number of smokers, especially teenagers, has actually risen rapidly over the past few years.

The most recent step in the war on smoking, was to switch the notices on cigarette boxes and put disturbing photos on them instead: photos of rotten teeth, a father smoking in front of his baby, a close up picture of diseased lungs, a woman with a premature old face and a dying old man.
