What would you rather get for valentine's day?
AFP reports about a new Japanese development: genetically modified blue roses. Soon to be available to Japanese consumers.
Suntory, a major whisky distiller responsible for the quirky development, plans on selling hundreds of thousands of the blue roses a year. The exact price and commercial name for the blue rose is still undecided.
The blue roses were created by genetic manipulation that lead to the synthesis of a pigment named Delphinidin in pansies. The pigment does not exist naturally in roses.
