New Gibson robot guitar tunes by itself

A self-tuning guitar said to be the first which uses robotic technology launches this week.

The £1,400 Gibson Robot self-tunes to a standard setting. It has six tuning presets which musicians can switch to by pushing a button as they play.

The guitar automatically retunes itself within seconds after string changes. Its purpose is to make the instrument quicker and easier to tune than by doing so manually.

Gibson said the automatically tuning version of its Les Paul model would reduce tuning problems for both novices and professional stage performers.

The instruments are the first of their kind to have robotic ability, the firm said.

It works by a device in the bridge monitoring the pitch of the guitar. Motorised tuners automatically adjust the pitch of the strings. (AP)

gibson made great guitars, but the deal they did with guitar center which was removing the ability to buy one thru local good ole boy guitar shops is pitful. Thats right, i know from experience. I will never buy from guitar center, ever! and it seems like the only place u can get one of these. Guitar center came to my town disguised as a buyer of local shop. They wanted to purchase one of the greatest guitar stores on this planet. When the owner exposed all his connections, accounting, etc. The disguised buyer said nevermind, no thanks and them opened up guitar center. What a friggin scum

I'm getting one and have a deposit down already. Also I have tried the guitar 1st hand.Yes I can tune my own guitar. But, this means I can go straight from a 440 to a drop "D" to a Bflat then open G tunings, between songs, in just seconds. Which means I take only one guitar to a gig...or maybe +a backup for emergency. Also for recording, it means so much less wasted time geting PERFECT tuning. Which does take time between takes. So, yeah..>i can tune myself pretty good...but still like the look of this new guitar. Can't wait until they bring out this system for a 12string accoustic! :-)

its not about being too cool to tune your own guitar its about wanting to play sabra cadabra in proper tuning then flipping back to something else fast... les paul probably wont sound as good as my gibson SG tho but whos to say... learn to change, thats what good musicians do, thats why im getting one, change can bring great amazing new sound if you have the creativity and excitement to embrace it, ... do u ALL want to sound like everyone else does or our heros???? or do u wanna be NEW HEROS..............

If you can't even tune your own guitar, you need to find a different hobby.
