I know reply to all can get repetative, but with out it you turn into citibank. A company that relished in denying it's employees tecnnology. When they bought AT&T Universal Card from AT&T they dismantled all of  the advanced technology we had. They took away email from associaates on the phone so we had to go back to making paper memo's, remember those I think not. I had forgotten about them. Great for trees ah. This only the extreme of a company trying to go backwards. It justn't work in the modern business world. It's just another example of a company wasting resources on the idiotic when I'm sure there are more pressing issues to reslove.

I believe people think it make them look like an important part of the company when they reply to all even though the reply may have little or nothing to do with most people. It is like putting the boss as a CC , thinking it will get more attention with that on the reader list

Corporate email should be about communication.  Data is not necessarily information. If it is not needed by the recipient it is noise.  The 'reply to all' function just makes it too easy to dump ever more useless noise into the system.  I don't think it's a big burden on the employee to be asked to engage his mind before dumping data- good or bad- into the mail boxes of a lot of folks who simply have no need for it!
