barack obama's inauguration is set to be the most expensive in US history....does this bother you any?

FLASHBACK....

 Jan 20, 2005

This week's inauguration story came ready with two interesting news angles: the huge cost (in contrast with the dire situation in Iraq) and the unprecedented security. And in both cases, the political press corps, as has been its habit under the Bush administration, showed little interest in prying. In the days and weeks leading up to the event, the press has largely treated inauguration criticism as partisan and silly, making sure to give Bush backers lots of time and room to defend the unmatched pomp and circumstance.

Yet according to a mostly underreported Washington Post poll this week, a strong majority of Americans -- 66 percent, including 46 percent of Republicans -- would have preferred a "smaller, more subdued" inauguration, given the ongoing war in Iraq. In other words, Bush's overblown celebration ranks as one of the few political issues that most Americans agree on -- a phenomenon the press ignored.

Wanna compare the cost of flying from Washington DC to Texas with the cost of flying to Hawaii?

he flies to Hawaii to visit his dying grandmother. Moving a presidential candidate around and his secret service detail and the rest of his entourage is not cheap. And how much was spent ferrying Bush around to all the vacations he went on? He spent a MASSIVE amount of his time in Kennebunkport and Crawford...

far fewer than a third of the people who attended the Obama inauguration attended the Bush inauguration... Maybe the Bushies needed all the money to defend him against the eggs.

If anyone other than Obama got into office people would be spitting FIRE they spent this kind of money.  I just feel for someone who screams about change, should actually start off right.  He could have had a day like any other new president, and donated all those funds places where needed.  But it's all about how people are filled with this need to grasp and hang on to words and promises.  I hope this guy delivers...otherwise our country is going to look like the biggest group of fucking fools.  also, the media needs to lay off...quit building all the hype.  We have a multi-racial president.  Not just black, not just white.  People are seeming to forget that.  it's all "our new black president this, our new black president that"  You know what...the main people keeping a racial divide in this country is the media.  They shove this crap down our throats 24/7 and most people just believe what they are told and take it for fact.  Im rambling and i dont' make sense, whatever.   I know someone will tell me im either stupid or an asshole - but oh well to that too

The worst economy ever, a recession on his hands and ours, but he has the most expensive inauguration ever. And he charters a private 757 to Hawaii to stay in $30 million worth of rental property there, yet he tells Americans we need to cut back and save. I DON'T THINK SO BAMSTER!!

the Federal government contributed 8.5 million. The rest of the money was contributed by individuals. I think you are bitching not because of the cost, but you simply object to the concept of President Barack Hussein Obama.

If you just got paid and you were told you were being laid off, would you go spend MORE money to enjoy the lay off or would you budget what paycheck you just got until a new job comes?  The government is just showing all generations why and still why we are in the mess we are in.

the budget for the inauguration could be better spent elsewhere...who the hell do you think is paying those people? the taxpayers...and the taxpayers are also the ones paying for the bailout....us and our grandchildren and their children who have yet to be born....

the conversation was about the budget for the inauguration, I mentioned that so many security guards and portapotty people and cleaners getting an extra day's pay (probably at higher rates) would be a boost economically, at least for the local area, and you start talking about corporate bailouts.
