The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree gets lit tonight (Dec. 3). It's a 72-foot-tall, 8 ton Norway spruce, and the annual tradition of raising a giant tree and lighting it in one of Manhattan's busiest areas has been going on "officially" since 1933. "The first Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was put up two years earlier during the Depression by workers building the Art Deco complex," reported Newsday.
