Samantha Gailey says: leave Polanski alone

13 year old model, Samantha Gailey, had sex with Roman Polanski, who was at the time one of the rising stars in Hollywood. The affair was discovered, Polanski was tried, and fled out of the states to avoid being punished. Gailey is now well in her 40s and publically claims Polanski needs to be left alone:

Here's what she writes:

"Here's the way I feel about it: I don't really have any hard feelings toward him, or any sympathy, either. He is a stranger to me.

But I believe that Mr. Polanski and his film should be honored according to the quality of the work. What he does for a living and how good he is at it have nothing to do with me or what he did to me. I don't think it would be fair to take past events into consideration. I think that the academy members should vote for the movies they feel deserve it. Not for people they feel are popular." (source)

They did not have sex. She was raped. The two answers to your "poll" are ridiculous and misleading. He has never "suffered" for what he did to her, which you do not accurately describe. When you rape a young child you do not commit a crime solely against the child, you have broken the law against the people of that state and country. He needs to face the consequences for what he has done. This has all sent a huge message to young women everywhere, and women who have been young women. It doesn't matter. Not that we didn't know this. Well, perhaps he should be able to live comfortably seeing he has hell to look forward to.

If this had been any other man, a doctor or a plumber, then nobody would have any sympathy for him. In fact, people would hate him. But just because he's a great filmmaker people think "oh, poor guy! it was so long ago anyway!" We are all equal before the law, or the law is corrupt. I agree that it was a while ago and Polanski may be a different man today, but we can't just let it slide or we would have to do the same thing for anyone whose crime was committed more than 10 years ago. Just because you regret an action does not make it go away as if it never happened. And this is not simply a petty crime, like shoplifting. It does not matter what Gailey thinks now because Polanski would not have known at the time what the effects of his actions would be on her. Things could have turned out differently: she could have gotten pregnant, become traumatized, gotten an STI, committed suicide.

What a ridiculous survey question! How about a third option that says "Her opinion is irrelevant, the law is the law and no-one is above it."

How DISHONEST of an article!  “13 year old model, Samantha Gailey, had sex with Roman Polanski…” should read “13 year old model, Samantha Gailey, who was plied with alcohol, drugged, assaulted orally, raped and sodomized by Roman Polanski, who was 43 at the time…”  If you’re not going to be honest and/or accurate, at least be brave enough to put your name to the trash that you write. BTW, my info. source is from ABC News' research of the trial testimony.

Would you leave your 13 yr old daughter in alone in a room with him?  I wouldn't, he should have been tried for this crime when it happened, but since he wasn't he should still be tried.  I don't give a damn how long it's been!

He is a genius - he raped a 13 year old girl (and drugged her) and got away with it for 32 years.  He is a sick excuse for a man and he should pay for the pain and humiliation he caused that 13 yr old CHILD.

Actually, what she is saying is to leave his MOVIE alone, not him.  Obviously she has let go and moved on, but I don't see anything in that statement that says justice should not take its course.

Her mother and the other people in the house at the time should be tried as well!
