I think it depends on how you are asking the guests. You should never put information about gifts in the wedding invitations, because that can seem like a demand for a gift or money, instead of simply asking someone to celebrate your special day with you. However, you can put that information on your wedding website or have relatives spread the word about what you want to people who ask them, because then the information is available to those who are looking for it, but it doesn't seem like you're begging for gifts.
In Taiwan and I understand in China, wedding gifts are nothing but money - packed in a silvery-red envelope. As we walk through the door we hand over the envelope to a gentlemen sitting at the door. I attended one and I asked my liaison officer about the gift amount and he suggested NT1,000.00 which at the time was about $US10.00. I would have given a bit more, but they said that NT 1000 was plenty. Like going to church I guess
Is it still rude if the couple who's asking for money over gifts, live in a different country from where the wedding is being held? How do they lug back all those gifts?

Or about to migrate to another country immediately after the wedding
