TYRANNY OF GOVERNMENT???!!!  omfg. The only group of people who have anything to fear from the government are criminals and terrorists, and possibly heavily armed doomsday cults like the Branch Davidians.  Oh, and it is very hard for somebody lurking in a 6th floor window to kill somebody with a knife. It is rather easy for somebody with a sniper rifle to do so. Firearms make murder far easier and more convenient. Nobody has ever been able to go to a school or a shopping centre and kill dozens of innocent people with a knife. They could not do so even if they had two.

Firearms are for people's protection, mostly from the tyranny of government. If people don't have guns, they're just going to get stabbed by violent criminals as opposed to getting shot.

Only the determined ones, and they would be immediately redflagged as dangerous.

just proved my point....if a criminal wants a gun they will find a way to get one....even going as far as creating one themselves...

No, not really. I was pointing out the problem that such a small district like DC could not possibly ENFOCE a ban on guns, because it is surrounded by Maryland and Virginia, states which, like the rest of the US, are awash with guns.

oh so you would like to see military/police rule that would allow our cars to be searched without probable cause? BS...no way the people of the usa will ever allow that...and once again i remind you this is not another country...this is america and we don't work that way...

Australia has a gun ban... Japan... Most of Europe... Low crime rates. DC had a high crime rate before the gun ban.And it was never going to work, unless all cars were stopped and searched for guns, because they are very easy to get just over the border.
