"If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain's quest for the presidency is over..."

By now you've probably heard about the Ashley Todd story.  The 20-year-old McCain campaign volunteer claimed she was robbed outside a Pittsburgh ATM and that her alleged attacker, a 6'4" black man, beat her after seeing a McCain sticker on her car.  Todd claimed the man said, "You are going to be a Barack supporter" before carving a "B" into her face.

"Police investigating the alleged attack, however, began to notice some inconsistencies in her story and administered a polygraph test," reported the HuffingtonPost earlier today.  "This afternoon, a Pittsburgh police commander [said] that Todd confessed to making up the story."

The latest developments have Fox News executive vice president John Moody adding, "If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain's quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting."

But the publicity was so much less. Did Obama's publicity machine put out information about it?

An Obama supporter did something similar a few weeks ago. Some people are sick no matter what "side" they are on.

I am relieved that this is a hoax, though. Nobody deserves that kind of treatment, no matter who they're voting for!

If individual supporters are resorting to literally beating themselves up, then things are pretty desparate. If I was a republican, I wouldn't beat myself up about it.
