He didnt go straight to washington, but did an interview with Katie Kouric, then went to his hotel and slept there, and then the following morning flew to Washington, where he missed the critical vote. -Personally, I think Letterman should ask a simple question about the withdrawal and get it over with, so he can get on to asking the hard questions (so few are asking hard questions these days). Or at least start asking questions that people want to have answered.
Letterman is a skilled interviewer. He will have prewritten questions, but these things are normally done on the fly. He has been doing his show for the last 25 years. He knows how to interview people. He was, for example, the ONLY PERSON to ask George Bush about what he would do in the event of a terrorist attack, during the 2000 election, and the answer was truly telling.
It MIGHT of helped McCain a month, but now his own Party is with-drawing McCain funds to support Rep. Senators who have a better chance in the up-coming election. Nothing to watch as the old Lion retreats into the shade.
