Being against abortion in cases of rape is fundamentally sound

I just stumbledupon this article

"As reported, Sarah Palin is against abortion under all circumstances. Rape, incest, you name it, she is against it. She is staunchly pro-life and even if her daughter was raped, she would strongly encourage her to choose life. I strongly disagree with the position, but I respect it. Sarah Palin might be a total douche every where else, but I respect her position on abortion in cases of rape for one simple reason...it is not hypocritical. Stay with me here.

Most people who are against abortion and claim they are pro-life usually back down when it comes to rape or incest. They say life begins at conception and abortion is murder, yet somehow are able to make an exception for extreme cases of unwanted pregnancy. They are somehow able to reason that a baby is no longer a baby if conceived in such a despicable way. They have convinced themselves it is ok to end the life of a child and turn around and claim they are pro-life. I don't get it. How does this make sense? How can one claim that the baby is a life and abortion is murder, yet turn around and make an exception?

Sarah Palin truly believes in life (as far as abortion goes, I doubt it on the death penalty) and her position on it. It might be radical, but it is fundamentally sound. There is not an ounce of hypocrisy in it and I respect it and anyone who holds that view. Again, I disagree with the stance, but I respect it. What I do not respect is the stance that a "pro-lifer" can admit that there are exceptions yet they go out and advocate against reproductive rights still. They are able to see some circumstance that one would want or need to have an abortion, yet argue against that right. I am not saying people should just go out and have abortions on a whim, but I certainly think they should sometimes be given the benefit of the doubt in more than just rape and incest situations. Any time you make an exception to the rule, you are not pro-life, but pro-choice (and a hypocrite). To grant exceptions, yet argue against every other reason is not only illogical, but full of hypocrisy. Truly being pro-life isn't about exceptions, but about life. Otherwise, I would classify myself as pro-life with exceptions as well. Sounds pretty stupid, huh? My thoughts exactly"

What's so laughable about that? I sat here and pondered what you could possibly mean by this for a couple of minutes... nope, still don't get it. It's easy to stumble across articles and things on the Huffington Post, because of the layout. Why wouldn't it be?

I find it interesting that people focus so much on what amounts to less than 2% of unwanted pregnancies.  It takes great courage to carry a child to full term after a rape, and I commend those who do it.  I, myself, know for a fact that I would.  The baby is far more important than his/her criminal father.  And yes, I also respect Palin for this stance.  She is consistent, and lives the life, which is a difficult place to be as a politician, esp. when the stand she takes is an unpopular one.  That reveals integrity, which is rare in Washington.  ---The only exception I make where abortion is concerned is when the mother's life is in danger, and the husband is in agreement with the choice.  This is a 'self-defense' choice, and one must choose which life is more important.  Plus, often, the baby will die anyway.  Personally, I would try to save the baby anyway, but I do not hold it against a mother or father for defending the mother's life in this instance.  Do you consider this hypocritical?

You "stumbled" upon this article in the HUFFINGTON POST?  I needed a good laugh today, thanks!
