Oct 9th, 2008 | Recession Chic survey

Regarding "recession chic," why do you think people dress more somber during hard times?

As Time magazine predicted back in March:  "Just as the world's financial markets are experiencing a serious mood swing, from exuberance to gloominess, so too is fashion. Enjoy while you can the bright bursts of floral prints sprouting up on department-store racks this spring. Come fall, fashion will follow the downward spiral of home values and investment portfolios, as designers embrace restraint with a dark palette and severe silhouette. As Amy Winehouse would so aptly croon: Back to black."

Wearing black makes fat people thinner. This represents the majority of the way women think so when i see a lady wearing black either she's sad or overweight - both turn-offs.

Because black is always flattering.

I'm guessing it is because black is the new fall color this year as apposed to the Autumn colors. I doubt it has anything to do with the economy. Colors are almost always darker in the fall.
