Do you think that Sarah Palin is middle class?

In her debate last week with Joe Biden, Sarah Palin referred to herself and her husband as middle class.  Newsweek, however, points out that "Sarah and her husband have pieced together a uniquely Alaskan income that reached comfortably into six figures even before she became governor, capitalizing on valuable fishing rights, a series of land deals and a patchwork of other ventures to build an above-average lifestyle."  Full article at Newsweek.

three words"Their whole lives". That means now, as well as in the past. Right now, they are millionaires, she is Governor of  a state, and very prominent in GOP politics. Not very middle class. Yes her origins are middle class, but she is not middle class anymore.

Where in the world do you get that "not a rich lifestyle" stuff? Seriously, I can't find that anywhere.

According to her running mate, you have to be making 5 million dollars a year to be considered rich.

not exactly true, economic mobility is highest amongst countries that are industrialising rapidly, which currently are places  China, Malaysia, Argentina, and Brazil. The things that improve economic mobility mostly are the availability and affordability of quality education, the growth of new industries, and things like home ownership, where the collatoral built up in the family home can be used by the next generation to get a better education, and so forth.

Never thought I'd agree with Phil...but thats the best description.  Like a whole lot of Americans she an her husband built a small business, some wise investments, and moved up in life.  The US has far more movement between economic classes than any other country.
