Oct 7th, 2008 | Palin Wink survey

Would Hillary have done better if she'd winked and worked Sarah Palin's "you betcha" folksiness?

Washington Post writer Richard Cohen writes:

"But what about Palin? Can you imagine the reaction of the press corps if Clinton had given the audience a hi-ya-sailor wink? Can you imagine the feverish blogging across the political spectrum if Clinton had claimed credit for stopping a bridge that, in fact, had set her heart aflutter? What if she showed she didn't know squat about the Constitution, if she could not tell Katie Couric what newspapers or magazines she reads or if she claimed intimacy with foreign relations based on sighting Russia through binoculars"

And which rights might they be, that she would be taking away from you (as if she, alone, would ever have the power to do so)?  Could you be a bit more specific?  Did you like Hillary because she would have taken my rights away instead of yours?  So what's new?  They've been doing that for longer than I've been alive.  But I guess I should feel lucky that I am, alive that is.  Some kids didn't get that right. ----But I've got to ask, what does that have to do with Hillary and the wink?  I think Hillary looks like she does because her husband is too busy not having sex with everybody else.  Either that, or he took one look at her and ran.  Talk about a shame, but that's old conveniently forgotten news, eh.

Oh, she wasn't forced to do that wink.  She LOVES every second of her rottenness.

That wink looks so forced. She looks like she was told to do this and really didnt want to. But I agree with Drawlord, Hillary does look like she feels she deserves it, that she absolutely NEEEDS to be in the White house again more than everything. Maybe it is a sense of shame as to who succeeded the Clintons in the White house.

No, Hillary would not fit that character.  What I like about Palin is that she is herself, even if that annoys you.  She is real, no matter how badly the press and Obama fans treat her for it.  If that's all people are worried about, then they must be pretty shallow.  Frankly, I don't know if Hillary was real or not, but had she tried to put on the Palin face, it would not have been pretty.  I have far more respect for people who are true to their personality, than any fake job, even if their personality gets on my nerves.  At least they are honest.  Honesty is rare in politics.  I find Sarah Palin refreshingly different.  The winks and language really don't matter to me.  She is herself, and that does matter.  I don't have any preconcieved ideas about what a vice president should look like, or what kind of language he/she should use.  Therefore, whether Palin winks or not is totally irrelevent to the real issues at hand.  I find honesty a good characteristic for a potential vice president, or any politician for that matter.  Like I said, it's rare, and I like it.

Palin's folksiness is only out-done by Betty Boop or a Hooters waitress. Can you imagine a Margaret Thatcher, Condi Rice, Golda Mier or even Hillary lowering themselves to that level? What an embarrassment to the TRUE Conservative Party. It matters not, the Neocons are going down anyhow - BIG time. Ten years from now few will remember her outside of being a hockey mom and a Repug - i betcha.

Palin seems a bit scatterbrained, but she has this really pleasant "I like everybody" attitude and she seems real positive.  The "you betchas" and winks are nice and all, but Clinton always seemed so angry...  She always struck me as holding back a passionate "You fucking bastards!  Vote for me because it's my turn!!!!"
