We will have to "seed" ourselves sooner or later as this planet no longer will support human life, otherwise we will go the way of dinosaurs - extinct, just like every other animal species eventually will do. I sure hope not. In an interview three or four years ago, when asked about future forms of energy and propulsion, the NASA spokesperson admitted that they hadnt had a single person designing new space craft or propulsion systems for roughly 30 years.
We depend on NASA's ability to launch a guy in space to repair our satellites that provide us with all sorts of goodies. We can, however, survive without these things. Space exploration is a novelty, not a necessity...IMO.
