I think the attempt to smear him is pretty lame. Obama is always cool about it; he's not like Dukakis, Kerry or Al Gore. Obama doesn't apologize for irrelevant crap like that "lipstick on a pig" non-issue. He just tells it like it is: he says that this kind of thing is a distraction, and he's right; it is. There's bigger things to be concerned about. I like the way Obama handles these things. He sounds like he'd make a damn good president.
His uncle liberated Ohrdurf (part of Buchenwald). He got the camp wrong. His uncle did not speak of it much, so it is no surprise that he got it wrong. My great uncles fought in WWI. I know one fought in Gallipoli, but as for the others, I am not sure if they fought in Ypres or the Somme or Fromelles and who fought in which one.
I liked when Senator Barak Obama insulted the good people of Pennsylvania. And when he said in a speech that his uncle liberated Auschwitz and was so disturbed that he became a recluse and suffered from Post Tramautic Stress Disorder and it turned out that in fact Aushcwitz was liberated by the Red Army.
The Roosevelt and Television ones are the same blunder... Bush comes up with more of these each week than both Obama and Biden have done their entire careers.
For a man who has been plagued by accusations of being a muslim and being forced to repeatedly insist that he is not, accidentally referring to his "muslim faith" is a pretty horrific blunder. The 57 states thing is a bit questionable, too. Biden's mistakes seem pretty minor, and easy to forgive.

His biggest mistake is assuming the media would report accurately.
