sorry, got a couple of pages confused.Typed Robert K Byrd into Google and got a civil war letter written by a Robert K Byrd. But my point still remains: Most of the segregationists left the Democrats and joined the Dixiecrats and many of them joined the Republicans after that.
"Do the research?" Look, you're not talking to Australia here. I'm a Southerner like you. Who do you think you're fooling? LBJ famously said when he signed the Civil Rights act that he signed away the South for the Democratic party. What do you know; he was right. Black folks vote Democratic over 90% of the time. There are good reasons for this, and I think you know it as well as I do.
and outlets like cnn, cbs, nbc, abc, msnbc, well all of American media, the ones that do not see things through a neoconservative lens, drive you right wingers crazy. WARNING: do not even attempt to watch British or German or Australian or Canadian or any other foreign news service... Your heads would explode.
yes robert K byrd. In the 60s. The 1860s. Things change over a hundred years... Back in 1908 for example, a Progressive called Roosevelt was the Republican president. The Democrats and Republicans of the 1860s are vastly different than those of today. The Progressives split off from the mainstream Republicans in 1912, and the segregationists split off from the Democrats and ran as "dixiecrats" between 1948 and 1964, when civil rights became a key part of the Democrats platform. Then many of these, like Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms, became Republicans. These changes, amongst many more, caused the current Democratic and Republican parties to become unrecognisable from their Civil War predecessors.
So the REPUBLICANS are the party of civil rights, standing up for the rights of black people? Is THAT what you're saying? Hilarious. Do you even know any black folks? Ask them what they think about your little theory.
let's see.....robert 'kkk' byrd a democrat tried to block the path to civil rights for blacks....it was republicans that got civil rights granted....lincoln was a republican....you know the guy that issued the emancipation proclamation....give it up phil....
No, he kept out of politics...The whole "render to Caesar what belongs to Caeser and render to God what belongs to God" thing is a clear message on the separation of church and state. However, if you had a good look at the policies of the Republican party (and some policies of the Democrats, possibly) you will find that many of them contradict him. Now I do not believe that he was a prophet or messiah or anything, but a lot of wise stuff has been attributed to him, most of which is still applicable to this day. And if you ignore it (especially if you ignore it while saying you are defending it) you may find yourself having problems. These things were said for a reason. To sum up: The main gist of Jesus preachings related to being a good person, and how to contribute to society. Ignore them, and society suffers. Ignore them while preaching them, and you are a hypocrite of the worst sort.
The Republicans of the 1860s are not the same people of this century or even the 20th. The Democrats stole the lead on civil rights in the 1960s, and segregationists like Strom Thurmond left to join the Republicans.
well i try to be a good person, but it's human nature to be imperfect. at some point we all contradict what we say, so we are all hypocrites.
... without SOME republicans. They don't vote in a solid bloc on ALL issues...

without the republicans it never would have passed.....especially with democrat robert kkk byrd trying to block it...

He made three historical points, each of which are factually correct. What's your objection? They don't fit with your preconceived notions?

FOX News is driving you libs nuts, isn't it? LOL!
Again, Phil, your knowledge of American politics is stunning considering you're an Aussie.

how weird...I don't think Jesus was political. He was a prophet...and more. but that's another debate altogether.

is that so.....if it were not for republicans blacks would have been slaves longer
