if you were in a position...would you fire a state trooper that tasered his own 10 year old son (step-son)?

Only if he HAD to, if he was doing it in the line of duty or to defend somebody's life.

Like Sportschick said, perhaps yes, perhaps no, but it entirely depends on the given circumstances.

I was a reserve Deputy Sheriff in NC for four years.  I'm not sure about Alaska law, but in NC a taser was considered deadly force.  Using the taser had to meet all the same requirements as using your pistol.  To be qualified to use the Taser we also had to be Tased as part of the training.  Anyone who has been Tased and would do it to a child has problems.  The fine Trooper in question was also cited for drinking on duty in his cruiser, and shooting a moose out of season while on duty.  The more the press pushes on this issue the better Governor Palin looks.

It would be acceptable if he had done it under circumstances such as the boy was out of control and violent and had a weapon and the father was called to the scene without knowledge that it was actually his own son who was making the problem. In a circumstance such as this it would have been unavoidable. There would be no reason to fire the trooper. However if he had let his criminal son slide, then the trooper's professionalism was be at question.
