Damien Hirst's works

Damien Hirst's massive auction of his work yesterday at Sotheby's fetched $169 million from buyers, with 87 of the 223 lots having yet to go. This is an all-time money high for an auction of works by a single artist, a record formerly held by Pablo Picasso. This was the first time a modern-day artist has offered a new exhibition of work directly for sale at auction, which effectively breaks the link between artist and gallery.

The "fine art" industry almost perfectly represents everything I hate about academia.

That's a beautiful work of art indeed!Man I wish two things.....1) that I was talented enough to create art like that2) that I was rich enough to get involved in the very hip art buying and trading biz

Anybody here play with "spin art" as a child? Did you know that you might've sold those pieces for big bucks? (provided that you were born in the right place, in the right circumstances...)

previous to this I was not aware of his work.Thank you for bringing it to my attention. It looks very beautiful, however I reckon that I still prefer the work of Pablo Picasso.
