Jefferson was a scientist.  He was strongly against religion.  Obama pays mere lip service to religion, probably as a practical necessity, while Palin is a born again religious fool . . . driveling with glossolalia.  Obama speaks in complete sentences . . . Palin speaks in cheerleader jingoism.  Do the math . . .

Frank raines never worked for Obama. your quoting the conservative media, that is misquoting a NYT article.

I'm sorry, he would have picked Obama for the simple reason his society viewed women as somewhere between imbecilic and criminally insane, legally speaking.  Some of you don't know your history very well - women only received the vote this last century, some DECADES after the Civil War which gave voting rights to blacks. That goes doubly so if Jefferson was a Freemason, as he may well have been.  Women are STILL not permitted to be Freemasons; those lodges that accept women are in the minority - even in this day and age - and are not considered true lodges [at best].

not so off base really....they both appear to have lobbyists working for them....BUT obama has the ones that ran these companies into the ground... jim johnson and frank raines were directly responsible for the mess those GSEs are in..

Officeshrew is utterly off base. Phil Gramm, McCain's chief economic "expert", authored the laws deregulating banking--and causing the meltdown. McCain's campaign manager was also the chief lobbyist for Fannie and Freddie for several years.

That's pretty funny coming from you. It sounds like you only listen to things you want to agree with. That's no way to find out what's going on.

Hi, it sounds like you are answering questions with "no" that were not posed.  The question is whether she wants abortion to be illegal (e.g even in cases of rape/incest). If she does think this should be illegal, then what punishment would she want for a woman who aborts a fertilized egg with an IUD or with a birth-control pill (which sometimes prevents implantation of the fertilized egg)?

Jefferson was an honourable man who cared for democracy and the wellbeing of the country. Obama is the first candidate in over 80 years to refuse funding from the big oil companies big business and lobbyists, and who is focused on what the country needs to do to to move forward iin the world. Given the depths thatMcCain has gone to he has no honour that I can see, so for Jefferson it would have been a no brainer.

Mr. Obama is in favor of more government power.  This is the antithesis of Jefferson's philosophy.  I also believe he would be disgusted with BOTH major parties, which seem to exist only to acrue more power to themselves.

Sam Harris says this about Sarah Palin: "Americans have an unhealthy desire to see average people promoted to positions of great authority. No one wants an average neurosurgeon or even an average carpenter, but when it comes time to vest a man or woman with more power and responsibility than any person has held in human history, Americans say they want a regular guy, someone just like themselves. President Bush kept his edge on the “Who would you like to have a beer with?” poll question in 2004, and won reelection."

Our society has changed a lot since his times.  Our expectations and the stigmas that people live under are much more egalitarian, and quite frankly better.-But Jesus.  Put this in the proper context.  Barack is a half-black muslim-educated cocaine-using bastard-conceived child of a white woman and an alcoholic polygamist from Africa.  He wouldn't have stood a snowball's chance in hell with Jefferson or anyone else in his era.-Even ignoring the social stigmas that Barack would be faced with, let us not ignore the radically liberal change in attitudes over the centuries, where a political party blindly tolerates life-long welfare for able-bodied people while advocating risky and unhealthy lifestyles and demanding that medicine, food, housing, and such be price-controlled, regulated and distributed by the government in a merit-less system.

After his 18th century mind suffered a total meltdown he would make a calm assessment and pick Obama. If anybody thinks he would allow an religious extremist into the top job, they need to think again. This is the guy who rewrote the New Testiment. Also - Jeff was a Democrat - the father of the party. He's not going to vote for those bloody Whigs!

What would Jefferson have thought of the day-after pill for avoiding pregnancy due to rape? Palin is against that.  Palin seems to be against anything that prevents implantation of the fertilized egg in the uterine wall (e.g. IUD or standard birth control pill, which can, sometimes, prevent implantationn of the fertilized egg).

Wouldn't Jefferson want someone for president who is more scholarly or intellectual than Palin?
