Depends on the person, but, almost every person that I know that has one of these things either lies about their experiences, or lies about having the ring/doesn't wear it at all, etc. A girl I knew mentioned that she felt "tethered to a stupid ideal by a stupid piece of jewelry."
Actually, this isn't a "trend" for the Mormons. They have been giving out CTR rings (Choose The Right) for years and years. I do believe that this positive affirmation can really make a difference.
