I've always heart the term "generation" refering to about 20 years -- roughly the average time it takes a baby to grow up and have a baby of its own.

I had to go with 50's for being middle-aged. I believe a generation is measured by 100 years.A middle life crisis I think can happen anywhere between your 40's and 60's, maybe even in a rare case, 30's if you packed the last two decades of your life.
