National Enquirer: Sarah Palin had an affair

Provocative tabloid, National Enquirer, printed an article alledging an affair between Sarah Palin, McCain's choice for VP, and a business associate of her husband.

While the Republican camp denies, it's important to remember National Enquirer already claimed John Edwards had an extra-marital affair, and was later sued by Edwards, only later to have the lawsuit dismissed as Edwards admitted in having the affair.

“The smearing of the Palin family must end,” said McCain senior adviser Steve Schmidt. “The allegations contained on the cover of the National Enquirer insinuating that Gov Palin had an extramarital affair are categorically false. It is a vicious lie.

Interestingly enough, the National Enquirer's website is currently down... Republican hacker attack?

I wouldn't care if she had an affair with a 19 year old lesbian on the floor of an evangelical church in a foreign country! If she can do the job well, do your thing baby.If not, see ya!

They have a sleazy history,  they're more reputable than the NY Times though, I'll give them that.

Just because it is the Enquirer does not make it a completely illigitimate news story. Didnt they break the Edwards story? It is what the Enquirer does... Finds the most sensational headlines and runs with them. Personally I do not believe that if somebody has an affair, then they are not fit to run things... But if they are taking a stance for "family values"...

The National Enquirer? Is this the reliable news source the democrats use? Galaxically stupid.

Yeah, smart, accomplished, loving mother of five, 80+ percent approval rating as Alaska's Governor.  I can see why you would say that, gigi.

I do not know the truth of this story, but in a world chockful of affairs, is this an issue? Wouldn't it be a bigger issue if she had never had an affair, except with her husband. Having an affair is not easy in small communities like ours and Alaska I would imagine, such that exposure of any hanky panky would be so fast that by next Monday the suspicion would be buzzing in all the corridors. In a society which is prone to accusing politicians of any and all shreds of misdeed, its a wonder and convenient I guess that they kept it all quite until now.

I don't believe it because it's not from a reputable source.  However, that's not to say that it would surprise me.  It doesn't change my opinion of her, much.

do some research will ya.....it has already been proved that she registered to vote only one time....and she registered as a republican....the nytimes had to retract that out of their article because they were too lazy to call the voter registrar in alaska...the report they got was from someone who has already had their toes stepped on by sarah...someone with a grudge....

Leave it to the media to try and tear down a person of political influence.

By the way, I don't think that's a picture of Sarah, but a model who looks a little like her.

This isn't much of a scandal. There's plenty about Palin that's more interesting than some affair she may or may not have had. How about the fact that the Alaskan Independent Party says that she was a member? Wishing to secede from the Union is hardly a patriotic stance.
