creationism is a christian belief.  if people would like their children to learn creationism, enroll them in a private school.  why should non-christian children be compelled to learn what evangelical christian politicians want them to?

Gravity is also a theory. The idea that the Earth moves around the Sun is a theory. We're still pretty sure that these things are true, but that's as best as empirical thought will allow.

No one ever said that man comes from apes. Evolutionary theory maintains that apes and man have a common ancestor. There's a difference.

The problem with anonymous posting is that people will believe that you are the Anonymous Abusive Guest. I only take down anonymous posts that are abusive, and I have stopped taking those posted by people who DO post under their own id's.

But the flat earth theory was only propounded by those who were not observant enough to see that the earth is round (for example not noticing that the tops of approaching ships appeared first) or not in a position to see it as a sphere, for example living on rough terrain.

Creationism has been disproven beyond a shadow of a doubt, in scientific circles, and as for evolution, it is the basis of modern genetics. Modern genetics does not work, does not function when you do not look at it from a non evolutionary viewpoint.

Without Al Gore's very popular political message AND his high profile role as vice president of the United States, I'm sure that you can agree that he would never have been a best-selling author, an academy award winner, or a nobel peace prize winner (in that particular order).  He is where he is because the world finds it gratifying for an ex-vice president AND major presidential candidate of the United States to criticize the US so utterly and so publicly during the hugely unpopular global conflicts that we started.

Heh.  I guess SOMEONE has to speak for Jesus, since he isn't speaking for himself... and there's no evidence that he ever did.  I'll speak for Zeus and Odin -- both of them "kings" among gods.  Now THAT is presumptuous.

Maybe it would have. A woman AND an African-American at the same time! But then again, if that were his thinking, he might have been better off choosing Condoleeza Rice.

Maybe it would have been a better choice for McCain to choose Halle Berry for his running mate?

I have to log out; it seems pollsb is the lions den for left wing politics... I just feel safer that way.  :) I don't deny that Gore's accomplishments are not well-documented and I also do believe he cares about the planet.  What I don't agree with is the fact that these accomplishments are praised based upon opinion and how it is presented as FACT. -  I also find it troubling that anyone who does not agree with the popular opinion at the time are vilified by the media or the general public.

Gore's accomplishments are well-documented. I stand by my statement. What makes you think I need to research that which is common knowledge? (And you didn't need to sign out to criticize me! I wouldn't hold it against you.)

If they teach one belief that man came from monkeys then they should teach the other belief of creationism.  Neither one has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.-I think abortion should only be done in certain situations; such as rape or incest or to save a life, but I also believe that it’s not my place to place my beliefs on when life began on other people when I’m not sure of this myself. -I see no harm in stem cell research as long as you are not killing or hurting people in the process.-I am a Republican and Proud, I believe in personal freedom of man.  -I don’t think its right for one man to place his beliefs on another and this is the core reason I am a Republican.  It seems to me as thou the other political parties want to impose their way of life on everyone else.  And I don’t like that!  -The only thing I need the government to do is build roads, educate children, keep me safe and get out of my life.  The rest of the stuff I can handle on my own.- Don’t Tread on Me!

And the majority of people thought the Earth was flat at one time.  Gore's oppinions are not based in fact, only theory.  - There have also been other Nobel prize winners who could be considered hacks today.  Buddy, I would have thought better of you to do your research before you make a statement, usually you do better than this.

To a small minority on the far right he is. To most people he's a Nobel-Prize, Academy Award-winning bestselling author, among other things. Most people do not consider someone so well-accomplished a "hack."

Here is the big problem - yes, she has campaigned against corruption and every country in the WORLD needs that... But she is taking the antiscientific view on so many of today's biggest problems... Running out of oil? Just drill for more, don't legislate for better mileage or anything, just get more out of the ground, dont worry about the effects of pollution on the environment, or the effect that teaching biblical creationism as  legitimate science has in distorting the minds of the next generation. HERE is where the danger lies.
