I think a white celebrity backing Obama benefits him. I also think a black celebrity backing McCain helps McCain - if there is such a person?

That is being a bit unfair to them They are not there without cause. They have gotten to the top of their professions through talent and hard work.

Celebrity support is a symptom of broader support. They like joining whatever bandwagon seems most popular, so long as the idology is right.

Most celebrities are morons or just interested in furthering there celebrity. I suppose there are a handful of celebs that could help. I just can't think of any right now.

Madonna helps, because thousands of people see her concerts and are reminded to vote.  Granted, it's preaching to the converted (perverted), but still.  I don't think she's any flakier than Oprah, who quite frankly turns me off with all her self-righteousness.  I'd rather see Madonna's crotch grabs and bald-faced calling the Republicans the demons they are, any day.

I thought Oprah's support for Barack was good.  I think Madonna's support for Clinton was damning.  Regardless of how talented and successful Madonna is, she's a world-class flake.
