Here in the Southern United States we have a variety of ant we call the "Fire Ant." These will also make your life hell if you step in the wrong place.
In Fiji there is variety of ants (called kadi) that build nests and if you step on them you have to be well protected in the feet because they will sting. Consequently there is an idiom, which says "do not mess with an ants' nest" which is in reference to calm people; who if you mess with them, they will make your life hell A movie I recently saw called "Taken" reminds of ant's nest.
