Aug 20th, 2008 | Religion Abortion Conception survey

Human life beginning at conception seems to be a basic religious tenet. Are you able to recall where in the bible it says that human life begins at conception?

The first reference says: "Psa 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them."  ...as yet there was none of them.  God saw me before birth, it's clearly spoken of.  He just doesn't use the word life in this passage. He does, in the second reference - Life for Life.  This passage even speaks of viability - if the baby lives, there is a fine, a punishment.  This alone speaks of how God feels about disturbing a baby in the womb.  But the worst of punishments is when his life is taken.  Thus "Right to Life' is given, even to a baby who is still in the mother's womb. You're a science buff, Phil, so you tell me... When does a woman become pregnant?  Is it when the pregnancy test proves it? or when the egg gets fertilized?  The test simply proves what has already happened, bioligically.  This Bible reference speaks of all phases of pregnancy, which starts at conception.  It does fit the criteria of the original question.

"in the lowest parts of the earth"? This does not match with the womb...  It seems like very arcane language to me... Wouldnt it be clearer, as in the stuff about " if men strive and hurt a woman with child so that fruit depart from her..." THAT is very clear. The verse about abortion is much clearer though. But I was asking about conception.

OK, try this one on for size...Psa 139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. Psa 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Psa 139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Psa 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. If I am not hidden from God in my mother's womb (and even before), would you call that life? Maybe. Well, try this one...Exo 21:22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. Exo 21:23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, Exo 21:24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, Exo 21:25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. So if a man causes a premature birth, and the mother and child are not injured and live, (no mischief), the man is fined. But if there is 'mishchief', injury or death, the penalty is 'LIFE FOR LIFE'... Scripture is speaking of an unborn child here. If a man takes the child's life, that man dies. BIBLE VERSES that call life in the womb LIFE. It doesn't give a specific time limit in the womb. 'With child' means anytime during the pregnancy. And the previous verses speak of times before the child is even in the womb. And thank you, Gigglybritches, for speaking up. I have been very active in the prolife movement for quite a number of years, and many, many people that I have worked with, directly and indirectly, were not Christian. Some people have a respect for life, according to their concience, and have no affiliation with any church, Christian or non. I am very glad you brought this up.But I think it's pretty obvious that I'm one of the 'Jesus Freaks' - and without shame. It is my right and freedom to be one, at least right now.

who cares if it does? The bible is full of outrages fairy tales. Just because it's in the bible doesn't make it true. Respectively, It's lack of notation in the book doesn't mean it isn't so either. How about some poeple wrap their minds around the fact that not everyone is Christian and every pro-lifer isn't a jesus freak
