Anthony Franz is suing Chicago restaurant Shaw's Crab House for serving him an undercooked salmon salad that he says gave him a 9-foot tapeworm in 2006.
After eating lunch at Shaw's, Franz claims he became violently ill and eventually passed the gigantic parasite. A pathologist has determined that the tapeworm came from undercooked fish, such as salmon, though lawyers for the restaurant insist Shaw's is not the source. Franz is suing the restaurant for $100,000.
According to the Mayo Clinic, tapeworms can measure up to 50 feet long.
That's the thought that crossed my mind. How would you identify the source of something that had grown that big (for so long)? But then again, I don't know how quickly these things grow.
A 9ft. tapeworm??? Seems like it would have been in his intestines for a long while.
I won't be able to eat fettuccine again, either!
