It is not the belief in a deity that I find offensive. It is the fact that certain religious people believe that even the nicest people will go directly to hell if they do not believe in what they do. What Supreme Being would punish somebody with eternal punishment because of such a small indiscretion that can't be helped? I can't help not believing... I would not want anything to do with any such being that would send somebody to eternal damnation for something that can't be helped.
