Health care is already our most expensive government program -- in fiscal year 2006 -- with 6.3% of our entire economy dedicated to government health programs, and nearly 18% of all government spending going to it. Government-provided health care and welfare (both are social programs) represent nearly 27% of our government's budget. Defense represents only 12%.
I have heard what McCain was saying about government spending. He was going after comparatively small things like a million dollars spent on wildlife research, while leaving billion dollar defense boondoggles like Star Wars and no bid contracts to Halliburton alone...
