Should extremely obese children be taken from their parents and put into care?

In an attempt to fight the growing obesity phenomenon in England, it has been suggested that bad cases of obesity will be treated as parental neglect.

Experts estimate that by the year 2032, half of the British population will be obese. dailymail

god no! That's awful! They are not (for the most part) purposefully harming thier children. They should just be educated on how to help thier children get down to a healthy size. To take a child away from its parents because of its weight is the most mean and cruel and ridiculous thing i have ever heard!

I have voted No. But when we say extremely obese; (I interpret this is as meaning that cranes and forklift have to be used to move people), and that by 2032 half of the British population will be extremely obese, that is alarming isn't it? What would be the British population by then I ask? Maybe there is something wrong with British governance policies somewhere, and not necessarily in the child-rearing area.

People who are not capable of looking after children do require assistance, but THIS is going possibly too far, except in EXTREME cases.

How is it like Communism? It is a ridiculous statement to declare that anything that impinges on civil liberties, even if it is in order to protect somebody, is tantamount to communism.

CPS here is a joke. There has to be a better answer than them. However, allowing your kid to become obese is NEGLECT. It IS child abuse. It's careless and selfish and usually assosiated with the parents poor diet and lifestyle. What could be more abusive than damaging someones, heart, kidney etc.... for life? There has to be a better way than cps though. You can't screw a kid up psychologically by removing them from otherwise ok parents. Some sort of teaching program or mandatory fitness goals at school maybe.

erp.  The article was about England.  I should have read it more carefully before responding.  I have no idea how well England's equivalent service works.

If we had a real institution to care for children, it might make sense.  However, CPS just assigns children to what often appears to be a lousy foster home with "parents" who are primarily looking to get some free money.  No offense intended toward whatever percentage of foster parents out there that are good-hearted and want to help children in need.  But that system is broken, imo, and until it's fixed, they don't need to even think about expand their scope to something like this.

That's ridiculous! They might aswell start introducing communism while they are at it.
