Olympics fireworks were faked

According to the British Telegraph, some of the fireworks shown on the televised "live" broadcast of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, were computer effects, prepared before hand by a team of animators.

Yahoo explains: "The faked fireworks were actually set-off at the stadium, but because of potential dangers in filming the display live from a helicopter, viewers at home were shown a pre-recorded, computer-generated shot."

haha. That is ridiculous. Is it too much to be shown REAL damn fireworks. This really does seem like quite the sham. I don't understand if all of the countries that ever hosted the Summer Olympics were able to display real ones, why not China. Especially given their budget; I mean if you have the money to throw down for the bidding and executing of the Olympic Games, certainly you can make the damn fireworks at the  Opening Ceremonies work, ya know?
