Is it safer to walk the precarious streets of Philadelphia or the war torn city of Baghdad?

As of November 2007, the murder rate in Philadelphia Pennsylvania is more than the rate of coalition and civilian killed in Iraq. Philly is at one per day per 1.5 million. Iraq is at 15 per day per 27.5 million.

Therefore, Philly’s rate is .67 per day per million, and Iraq’s is .55 per day per million.

The statistics show you are safer to walk the streets of Baghdad than right here in the USA.

They are not just murder rates in Iraq but coalition and civilian killed in Iraq.  In Philly they are all the violent deaths and since it is not a war zone.. they don't have military casualties.   Statatisticly you are safer to walk the streets of baghdad.

That is the number of REPORTED murders. Iraq is an entire nation, and a war zone. Therefore, the proportion of the murders there that are reported is drastically lower, because in wartime people tend to disappear. They do not know whether they disappear to, they just disappear. They would just be left in the street or in a shallow grave somewhere in the desert, or possibly weighed down with bricks and dumped into the Euphrates. Sometimes, the victims don't have anybody left to report any differences because all of their friends are dead or have joined the one million internal refugees and one million refugees that have gone over the border. Compare that to Philadelphia where nearly all murders would be reported, because nearly everybody would have a next of kin. Therefore it is impossible to even KNOW the actual murder rate. Not even an estimate. In short, The official murder rate in Iraq would be the MINIMUM murder rate, not the ACTUAL one.
