Is attacking and occupying a country (that did not attack you) the same as being at war?

I wonder why one never hears the phrase "pre-emptive strike" on the media anymore? Maybe they think we forgot.

The problem is, the Iraqis see the US troops as occupiers, and are reacting to them as such. What do you think they are? Liberators?

I can't forget the picture of the Iraqi people standing in line to vote, in spite of the suicide bombers and snipers, and the smiling faces when they held up their finger that was dipped in purple ink.

What I want to know is what is making the "war" successful. Is it the millions of innocent Iraqi civilians that have died or the US troops that have sadly perished? I saw a video in class of US troops that were in Iraq back when Bush Sr. was president. The troops were calling out "Say hi to Allah" and laughing before bombing the Iraqis. That's the stuff that no one ever sees. Here's a good site: http://www.projectcensored.org/top-stories/category/y-2008/

But President Bush does. Here's a quote from him in April, 2004 (source: Whitehouse.gov, "President Addresses the Nation in Prime Time Press Conference," official transcript.) "They're not happy they're occupied. I wouldn't be happy if I were occupied either."-Bush has not been shy about using the word "occupation." Here he is again, in May of 2004, describing his "five part plan" for Iraq: "On June 30th, the Coalition Provisional Authority will cease to exist, and will not be replaced. The occupation will end, and Iraqis will govern their own affairs." - from "President Outlines Steps to Help Iraq Achieve Democracy and Freedom," (again, from an official White House press release.) Oddly, this quote seems to refer to a timeline, not a "General Time Horizon."
