Is this really the world's steepest street?

With an incline of 1:2.86 or 19 degrees, Baldwin Street in New Zealand is recognized by the Guiness Book of Records as the steepest street in the world. (A Welsh View)

"Guiness record assessors" have been wrong on several counts. First-hand experience trumps hearsay.

It is the steepest street, it has been verified as such by the Guiness record assessors. Other streets, as mentioned by commenters, do not equal or exceed. And speculation cos' you've seen it, does not make it so.

California has some of the steepest streets I've ever seen.

San Francisco has so many streets where you can't even see the road while you're driving down.  Filbert Street, between Hyde and Leavenworth, has a 31.5 degree grade.

I've seen steeper in West Virginia, where the land is mostly vertical. Some folks say that if you were to flatten out that state, it would be as big as Texas.

Look, I trust the people at Guinness did their research before declaring this a staple in steepness.

Even the famous Lombardo st. in San Francisco looks steeper than this one.
