Are You Going to Buy the 100 MPG Aptera?
The aptera (Greek for "without wings") was a concept car revealed to the world last year. Using highly aerodynamic shapes, super light-weight materials, and some radical engineering choices (like tiny cameras embedded in the body with LCD monitors on the dash -- instead of rear-view mirrors), the prototypes achieved an efficiency of 300 miles per gallon (MPG), while still reaching comfortable speeds of 65 MPH on the freeway.
Somewhere on the road to production, the specs have been revised to 100 MPG, and the trunk appears to be much bigger (15 bags of groceries!). It's a two-seater, with a third spot for an infant in-between and behind the two front seats. It comes in an all-electric model for $27,000 and a plug-in hybrid model for $30,000 (which uses gasoline to generate electricity).
