The bible was a book written by and for those living 2000 years ago. While some of it is still  good advice, things have changed. Science has risen since then. Eating pork is safe, for example, so long as the pigs involved are healthy. And, of course, the events described didnt actually happen as written.

Very nice point my friends, agreed. Although the bible cannot be taken literally as we percieve literally due to the counter evidence of science, I still have no problem with taking it as being divinely inspired and the word of G-D. I wouldn't go out killing anybody who disgarees though. :-) <wink>

I have to agree with bmccue.  My first thoughts were recipies in a cookbook or how-to fix it books.  These should probably be taken literally.   As for the bible, no.

I had to vote yes only because the question included "or any book." It seems to me that a work of non-fiction should be taken literally. Some books are meant to be read that way.  However, in my opinion, the Bible should not be taken literally.
