One of the most sacred traditions on France's annual Bastille day July 14, is the national ceremony in which the French president awards the Legion of Honor (Légion d'honneur in French) awards to important, deserving personalities from all walks of life.
This year, the French president gave the top honor, the French equivalent to the British knight of the Queen award, to some important figures, like Columbian politician Ingrid Betancourt (who has just been freed after years of captivity by Columbian rebels), and French actor Jean Reno, but he also awarded it to some personal relations of his.
Nicole Chaubrac, the French judge who ruled over his swift divorce case from former wife Cecilia last year, received the top award.
So did a practically unknown man called Jacques Séguela, who apparently introduced Sarkozy to Carla Bruni, his ex-supermodel, pop star, wife, during a party at his house.
When asked by the French media why she though Sarkozy chose her to receive the highest honor in France, judge Chaubrac said she thinks it was because the president was so happy that she didn't allow any media leaks during the divorce trial, and refused to interview about it.
