Ever get groceries delivered from an online market?

Simon Delivers, a Twin Cities-based online grocery delivery service, has gone out of business after nine years.

"Today's economic conditions, including the spike in food and fuel costs, have forced us to make this very difficult decision," said the company's president in a statement.

Numerous online delivery services have also failed in the past.  Webvan tried delivering groceries before it went bankrupt in 2001; CNET recently called Webvan "one of the greatest dotcom disasters in history."  Other services like Kozmo.com promised delivery of just about anything in various cities including Manhattan, Chicago, Seattle and others; UrbanFetch offered similar services in Manhattan and London before failing.

FreshDirect continues to do well in the New York metro area, with nearly 2,000 employees and 250,000 customers.
