Skin-whitening commercials in India suggest that pale skinned women are more likely to get married

A series of commercials for Pond's "White Beauty" features three of Bollywood's bigest talents in a sope-opera love triangle. In the first episode, a woman with a dark complection runs into an old flame in the street, his arm around a white woman. As she walks away from the couple, sad, she finds herself in front of a display window featuring Pond's "White Beauty", a cream that promisses your skin a "pinkish white glow". independent.co.uk

Apparently this commercial has several versions aimed for different Asian audiences, promissing "Flawless White in just 7 days". You can watch the full version (all 5 episodes! happy ending!) here.

a tan is not permanent- it isn't the same as blkeaching the skin which is potentially very dangerous.  imperialism has a lot to answer for...

I'm naturally extremely pale, and I get bombarded by ads suggesting that not having a tan makes me look unhealthy and ugly. so if people are going to get upset by these commerials, maybe they should be upset by self tanners, tanning salons, and even the "glow" products in America.

people pay to get tan because they don't want to look pale.

I'm against anything that suggests a scale of human worth.

I don't see anything wrong ? When I was in China I found out that women cover their whole body (use umbrellas and long sleeves)to remain White because in Asia they believe that White represents beauty; so basically I understand where this commercial is coming from. When I was there the tour guide asked us why did people go and pay to get tan ? and nobody in our crew had a good answer.
