Yeah! I paraded for the 4th of July encouraging good grammar. It was also appalling to ask people about their favorite part of speech and have them respond, "comma." Okay, really I don't think people who are poor spellers are of lower intelligence, but I do judge them quite harshly when it's in a professional situation. Proof-reading and spell check, c'mon!
wow. using slang doesn't make you dumb. it depends on where it's used. i wouldn't use slang at work or at a job interview. There are plenty of intelligent people who use slang. Most white people think slang is humorous but.......
Obviously, I cut foreigners a lot of slack. However my "loser" alarm rings when I hear or read poor grammar, poor spelling, poor pronunciation, and slang. Unless the slang is used with humorous intent.

I never put much stock in a man that can only spell a word one way, Mark Twain
In college I had more than one instructor to admit "NOT THE BEST SPELLING."
Yeah, I expect that many people disagree with me about slang. Perhaps they are right, but I'm not convinced of that.
I sympathise with those who, because of regional differences in spelling and grammar, are accused of bad spelling.

I believe you.
I can't spell for crap. but I can build anything.
I've met such people, too.

Grammar more that spelling.
i know of several people that are highly intelligent with degrees but are bad spellers...
It really all depends on the person and the situation though.
