The last drilling accident off the coast of the US happened in 1967. Since then the 300 drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico have been hit by an earthquake (2006) and more than fifty hurricanes (including Katrina that knocked 109 platforms off their moorings and spilled...no oil). The total amount of oil spilled? Less than 50,000 gallons...in 40 years. The total amount of oil that reached shore? 0 Gallons. We may choose not to drill, but guess what? Cuba has signed contracts with China to begin drilling 90 miles off the coast of Florida. So instead of the US taking advantage of all that oil, our allies the Chinese and Cubans will take advantage.
Safe to say you're opposed to drilling?
