Sacha Baron Cohen could simply be Freddy. Out of borat make-up, Sacha has the skin, the look and he is a skilled actor that could pull off both the playfullness of freddy aswell as the macho powerful stage presence and he can sing and so could lip sync convincingly, more to the point i believe he could evoke freddie while both on stage and offstage.
Sadly the idea of johnny depp playing freddy makes me feel ill and puts me in mind of johhny depps recent willy wonka portrayal, a painfully thin white faced figure with a big black scary wig in a black coat and tails jacket with overgrown white cuffs and thin hands-remind you of something....? that was not the real freddy it was a shadow of him!! I for one do not for want to remember freddy as somebody who only died of aids and looking no different all the way through the movie.
