"2007: THE YEAR IN PARTIES
In Memoriam: MisShapes and Boombox
If the hipster contingent seems more sullen than usual lately, it has good cause. Their social life has suffered a dual blow. First, MisShapes, the weekly Soho dance party that, in its five-year run, attracted everyone from Madonna to FIT freshmen (Kelis is at left), bit the dust in early September. Now, its London counterpart Boombox plans to go gently into that good night come the new year. Those behind the respective parties have already moved on to bigger and better things. The marketing-savvy MisShapes have a clothing label in the works, while Boombox proprietor Richard Mortimer and resident photog Alistair Allan are launching a fashion Web site. But where will the eyeliner-happy kids go to flaunt their American Apparel finest and shimmy to Arcade Fire tunes now?"
