Is Blackfellows Caves an offensive place name?

There's been a push to change historical place names in Australia that have racial origins. Blackfellows Caves is a small fishing/holiday town in South Australia. It was named because Aborigines used to hide there from early settlers.

History is history. You can't hide from it and you can't change it.

Not nearly as offensive as some place names here in the Southern United States. This road in North Carolina, for example (copy'n'pasted from the Times News Service, asteriks added by me,) "County officials, responding to a petition by residents of N****r Skull Road, said they would ask North Carolina to rename the mountain road. The petition, signed by 23 people who live on the Tuckasegee Valley road, was approved by the Jackson County Commission yesterday. If approved by the state Department of Transportation, the road will be renamed Cedar Valley Road, after a community church."
